My Arizona: Jerad and Topeaka Miles

In this series, real people share their insights about visiting Arizona. From favorite hiking trails and prime spots for sunset photos to what surprised them the most about the Grand Canyon State, these travelers tell all.

Prescott residents Jerad and Topeaka Miles always find time for adventuring throughout Arizona. Whether it’s trapping for crawdads at Dogtown Lake in Williams or hiking Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, the couple knows their way around the state.

Since becoming new parents, however, travel is trickier. But not impossible. The Miles just keep their trips a little closer to home.

“There’s nothing like walking around Prescott’s downtown, especially during the fall,” they say.

A stroll around their hometown might also include stops at some of their favorite restaurants and watering holes.

For cocktails, the couple hits up Matt’s Saloon, a cash-only honky tonk dating back to 1934. For outdoor dining, the Miles like Park Plaza Liquor and Deli, a restaurant popular for its wood-fired pizzas. And when it comes to breweries, the Miles say they prefer mead instead; specifically, the award-winning offerings at Prescott’s Superstition Meadery.

In addition to Prescott, the Miles also love nearby Sedona, calling it one of the most scenic places in the state.

"Sedona will always have a place in our hearts because it’s where we got married,” they say. “Seeing the beautiful red rocks never gets old.”

Whether their trips take them far from home or mere steps from their front door, the Miles believe that travel is the way to expand the heart and mind.

“Get out and try new things. Many of the best places to discover are where you least expect them.”
