The holidays are a great time to catch up with family and friends you haven’t seen in a while. But, sometimes, after a few hours, you remember why you wait so long between visits.

These articles are brought to you by the staff of the Arizona Office of Tourism, and occasionally local tourism organizations around the state.

For every person who loves reconnecting with family over the holidays, there’s someone else dreading it. Thankfully, like Santa, we keep two lists. Here are some suggestions on how to spend time with—or away from—your family this holiday season in Arizona.*

Learn where your food comes from.

Breathe and look at the stars.

Go for a (horseback) ride.

Take a winter walk.

Embark on an only-in-Arizona adventure.

Get pampered in nature.

Work off those holiday meals with a hike.

Head to the (state) park.

Spend nothing and take all the credit.

Take a road trip.

*Of course, any of these activities can be done with or without a group. It's up to you to decide how to celebrate.
