Ak-Chin Indian Community

Discover an American Indian farming community powered by seasonal washes.

History & Nature

Better known as the "place where the wash loses itself in the sand or ground," the Ak-Chin Indian Community hosts rich agriculture and uses a unique farming system. The Community’s water is derived from washes created by winter snow and summer rain, which helped establish Ak-Chin as one of the largest farming communities in the United States.

Things to Do

Composed of both Tohono O'odham and Pima people, the Community shares their heritage through the Ak-Chin Him-Dak Eco-Museum. Artifacts of the Communities past are preserved and shared in this one-of-a-kind site. Two of the Ak-Chin’s largest events, the Him-Dak Celebration, and Native American Recognition Day, are both held at the museum.

Open 24 hours a day, the Ak-Chin Indian Community also houses the Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino and Resort. The casino features extensive slot machines, bingo, poker, keno, and live dealer blackjack.

Hotels, Lodging & Camping

Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino and Resort is on the reservation. The luxury hotel is equipped with courtyard gardens, a swimming pool with swim up bar, and private balconies. Lodging options also available in Phoenix, which is about 50 miles away.
