Your search for a delightful aquatic area is over – you’ve found Jacques Marsh Wildlife Area. Located just two miles north of Lakeside, Arizona, this lush oasis consists of 130 acres of national forest land, including 96 acres of ponds. Hoping for some variety? You’re covered there, too. Seven ponds and 18 islands will give you all the variety you could hope for.
Wondering what it’s like around all these ponds? It’s a gently rolling landscape with a pronounced northerly slope, at an elevation of 6,600 feet. It includes Montane Conifer Forest, meadows, plus some area of riparian deciduous woodland and juniper-pinyon woodland.
The area is managed for waterfowl, which makes this a wonderful location for hunting, and all that vegetation provides excellent blinds. The best hunting happens early in the season until ice-up. Bring along your decoys and chest waders – they are both recommended here.
There’s a variety of hotels, inns, and resorts in the nearby town of Pinetop-Lakeside – just two miles from Jacques Marsh Wildlife Area. You're sure to find a convenient option that fits your style and budget.
