18th Annual It’s Elemental Exhibition

Flagstaff Arts Council announces the 18th Annual It’s Elemental Exhibition showing November 13 – December 19, 2018 at the Coconino Center for the Arts. This exhibition showcases works by the finest craftspeople in Northern Arizona, with one-of-a-kind pieces displaying various mediums. The members’ preview reception for It’s Elemental will be at the Center on Saturday, November 10, from 5 – 6 p.m. and the public opening reception will be from 6 – 8 p.m.

The 2018 show features jewelry, ceramics, glasswork, wood, furniture, fabric, sculpture and more. Many of the participating artists will be present during the opening reception, where there will be food, beverages, live entertainment, and the chance to view and purchase the handmade pieces.

“The show, which is a regional favorite, highlights northern Arizona’s finest craftsmanship from a variety of artists. In the exhibit, visitors will see exceptional wood, clay and fiber pieces, alongside blown and stained glass, metal and jewelry. Each artist creatively explores the boundaries of their own medium to design stunning new works that will be on display,” states Arts Council Deputy Director, Elizabeth Vogler.

It’s Elemental, dates back in Flagstaff for over 30 years. The exhibition has its roots in the earliest history of the Coconino Center for the Arts. When the Center opened in 1984, the exhibition was titled, “Wood, Fiber, Clay.” The Center closed in the late 1990's, but when it reopened in 2001, the exhibition returned with its current name and concept.

Showing concurrently with It’s Elemental is the student exhibition Foundations, which will be on display in the Jewel Gallery at the Coconino Center of the Arts. The exhibition will showcase the talent of up-and-coming fine craft artists attending Northern Arizona University and Coconino Community College.

The exhibition is accompanied by the Fine Craft Sale on December 1-2, 2018, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 – 4  p.m. on Sunday. The Fine Craft Sale is a juried holiday marketplace featuring local craftspeople. Now in its eighth year, the Sale is a popular fixture in Flagstaff’s holiday season.
