Verde Canyon Railroad
Built 1912 to serve the copper mines out of Jerome, this Sedona-area must-do has carried over two million passengers since becoming a scenic excursion train in 1990.
Verde Canyon Railroad offers a wilderness adventure into an area of extreme natural beauty, following the curves of the Verde River, 20 miles up through a red rock canyon full of unusual geology, abundant wildlife, lush greenery and Native American ruins, aboard well-appointed vintage train cars traveling historic rails.
Every season offers a different reason to ride; the climate-controlled train runs year-round.
The fully-narrated ride begins at the depot in Clarkdale and ventures 20 miles to the historic ranch town of Perkinsville and back, over vintage trestles and through a 680-foot tunnel. Passengers enjoy access to adjoining open-air cars throughout the 4-hour round-trip.
Special seasonal events include Raptors at the Rails, Summer Starlight, Ales on Rails, Fall Color Tours and Magical Christmas Journey.
