Camp Verde

Located in the lush Verde Valley, Camp Verde, Arizona, offers outdoor recreation, wildlife viewing, and historic sites.

Imagine a town in central Arizona full of history and rich in Western rural character, not to mention 18 miles of river meandering through town limits. Welcome to Camp Verde.

The residents of Camp Verde consider themselves lucky to live in the lush Verde River Valley. Their winding waterway creates a habitat for bald eagles, hawks, blue heron, beavers, and otters. Surrounded by the Bradshaw Mountains and Prescott National Forest, there's spectacular scenery in every direction.

Getting outdoors in such a beautiful area is a must—try horseback riding, off-roading, jeep tours, hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing.

The explorations don't end there. Camp Verde also holds incredible cultural attractions. Montezuma Castle National Monument—a historic five-story American Indian dwelling in a limestone cliff—is located in town, and Fort Verde State Historic Park is in Camp Verde's historic downtown.

We're not done yet. Add to your list the ancient cliff dwellings at Montezuma Well National Monument or the chance to see wild animals up close (or from the air on a zip line) at the intimate Out of Africa Wildlife Park. Not to worry: There are plenty of lodging options in the area. You can take the time to see it all.
