SalsaFest 2013: The Hottest Event in Southern Arizona
Celebrate Arizona's Salsa Trail® at the hottest event in Southern Arizona - the 7th Annual SalsaFest on Friday & Saturday, September 27 & 28, in the City of Safford Town Square. Safford’s historic Main Street will glow with hot air balloons on Friday evening as festivities begin. The SalsaFest is a celebration of everything Salsa, including an opportunity to win prizes and bragging rights in the annual Salsa Challenge.
The Safford Lions Foundation invites the public to join in the fun listening to live entertainment, eating delicious food, watching Chihuahua races and a doggie costume contest, and sampling some of the greatest salsas in the Southwest. SalsaFest activities also include a salsa-making contest, lots of vendors, a Kidz Korner, a special Salsa Walk to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Gila Valley, the Hot Cars on the Salsa Trail Car Show on Main Street, Saturday sunrise Hot Air Balloon lift-off, and Jalapeño & Salsa eating competitions. Event information and entry forms for the competitions will be available online at www.SalsaTrail.com.
The Salsa Trail® is all about terrific Mexican food and the hometown friendliness you will find in the small Southeastern Arizona communities of Safford, Pima, Thatcher, Clifton, Solomon, Duncan, and York. Sprinkled throughout the communities are a dozen family-owned Mexican restaurants serving terrific
food with a smile and joined together through the Graham County Chamber of Commerce to make up the Salsa Trail®. These businesses will be offering SalsaFest specials during the festival weekend. A Salsa Trail® map and directions are also available online at www.SalsaTrail.com.
‘A Taste of the Salsa Trail®’ festivities begin Friday evening with a Hot Air Balloons glow and continues until Saturday afternoon. Salsa Trail® restaurants will dish up samples of their special concoctions on Friday evening and Saturday the Salsa Challenge Tent opens to sample every contestant’s freshly made salsas. A $5.00 donation gets a tray of chips for salsa sampling and a vote for the People's Choice Awards. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships to be awarded by the Safford Lions Foundation. Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold, Inc. and NatureSweet are major sponsors for this year's SalsaFest. Information is available at www.SalsaTrail.com or by calling the Graham County Chamber of Commerce at 1.888.837.1841 or 928.428.2511.
