Dreamed into existence by entrepreneur Robert McCulloch and Disneyland developer C.V.Wood, Lake Havasu City was established in the 1960s as a warm-weather, lakeside haven for residents of colder climes — complete with the iconic London Bridge, moved from England brick by brick; a collection of miniature lighthouses that dot the lake’s shoreline, each a replica of a famous North American lighthouse; and Bridgewater Channel, a bustling thruway for boats lined on either side by pedestrian walkways, shops and restaurants.
Though there’s no shortage of things to see and do in Lake Havasu City, it’s the lake that’s the heartbeat of the destination. Boasting sandy beaches and stunning natural landmarks around every bend of its 45-mile length, Lake Havasu is one of the Southwest’s best watersports destinations. In fact, the community hosts national boat racing and Jet Ski competitions, and is one of the top-rated fishing locales in the United States.

Kenny Samp and his family have called Havasu home since 1976. Now he co-owns Sunset Charter & Tour with his wife, Janene, where he captains a fleet of cruising boats, charming visitors with his charismatic storytelling and deep knowledge of the city’s history.
Southwest Outfitters is the place in town to rent or buy all manner of watercraft (kayaks, paddleboards and more) and to learn the best (and most secret) places on the lake to explore. That’s thanksto store manager Justin Butel, who not only knows every nook and cranny of Lake Havasu but is eager to share his insights with customers.
Ryan Reynolds grew up in Havasu and is now raising his own family on these same shores. Reynolds operates Nautical Water sports, a dockside boat-rental outfit where guests can choose from pontoons, personal watercraft, ski boats and houseboats. His goal: Give visitors an opportunity to make lasting memories with family and friends.
