Outdoor Adventures

Endless Ways to Explore the Wild

More than half of Arizona is comprised of public lands open for visitors to enjoy outdoor recreation year-round. As the sixth largest state in the nation, that adds up to endless opportunities to hike, bike, fish, hunt and camp. Incredibly scenic and unapologetically rugged, Arizona’s outdoor adventures welcome visitors to get out and go.

The Grand Canyon, Superstition Mountains and Monument Valley are just the beginning. Arizona is the only place on the planet where visitors can hike among mighty saguaros in the Sonoran Desert. Ski resorts make Arizona a four-season destination, inviting guests to shred mountain slopes popular with hikers and mountain bikers in the warmer months.

Visitors to the Southwest are also surprised to find so many opportunities for water recreation in Arizona. Towns along the Colorado river offer endless opportunities to skim across the water, cast a line or set up camp and watch the water flow by. Alpine and desert lakes offer even more phenomenal water playgrounds in Arizona.

Many hiking and biking trails double as living-history lessons on historic wagon routes and trails once used to drive cattle. Pass through ghost towns and discover remnants of abandoned mining operations. On any of Arizona’s remote trails, see the same dramatic landscapes that Indigenous people and early settlers admired. With one of the nation’s top bucket-list hikes as well as a National Scenic Trail that crosses the entire state, Arizona is wild at heart.
