Honoring the Red Rocks: Bird Gathering at Tlaquepaque
First of its kind in Sedona
Celebrate Native American Heritage Month in Sedona with Honoring the Red Rocks, a special cultural gathering featuring traditional Native American bird singing, bird dancing, and Yavapai storytelling at Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village.
Experience the living traditions of Arizona's Indigenous communities as bird singers and dancers from across the region share songs, stories, and cultural expressions passed down through generations. This first-of-its-kind gathering in Sedona honors the cultural significance of the area's iconic red rocks while celebrating the rich heritage and shared traditions of Yavapai and Yuman-speaking peoples.
Visitors can enjoy traditional bird songs and dances featuring AshaaTakook, Wali & Kynoe, the Red Mountain Group, the Parker Boys, and Michael Mirelez & Desert Cahuilla Bird. Salt Singer Matthew Cruz will also participate, alongside an honored Yavapai Elder who will share traditional storytelling and cultural knowledge.
Set within the picturesque courtyards of Tlaquepaque, this welcoming community gathering offers an opportunity to connect with Indigenous culture, learn about the significance of Native traditions, and experience the enduring relationship between the Yavapai people and Sedona's red rock landscape.
