Colossal Vail 50/50

An ultra run on portions of the Arizona Trail near the community of Vail (24 miles southeast of Tucson). It is the first leg in the Southern Arizona Triple 50. Starting and finishing at Colossal Cave Mountain Park, the 50-mile, 55K and Half-Marathon courses feature some of the greatest high desert trail running opportunities in this part of the state. The course is designed as a relatively fast trail ultra on rolling terrain with great scenery. The CV 50/50 uses most of the Arizona Trail Passages 7 & 8, which link the Santa Rita Mountains south of the Tucson Basin to the Rincon Mountains on the east side of the Basin on the ancestral lands of the Tohono O’odham and Pascua Yaqui. Parts of the trail skirt the east edge of the Sonoran Desert, where the Mexican Highlands borders it, a transition zone to the Chihuahuan Desert and some of the Sky Islands mountain ranges of southeast Arizona.
