Southern Arizona Heritage & Visitor Center

Welcome to Tucson: the largest city in Southern Arizona and jumping-off point for trips throughout this region and northern Mexico, the second-largest city in the state of Arizona, and the seat of Pima County--located in the heart of the biologically diverse Sonoran Desert region of the Southwestern United States. Tucson is surrounded by five stunning mountain ranges teeming with natural desert flora and wildlife, hundreds of trails to explore, breathtaking views of the sunrise and sunsets, and plenty of open space recreation to enjoy just a short drive outside of the city. Also home to the Chuck Huckelberry Loop, a shared-use pathway covering more than 138 miles connecting parks, trailheads, bus and bike routes, workplaces, restaurants, schools, hotels and motels, shopping areas, and entertainment venues. Visitors and Pima County residents can enjoy The Loop on foot, bikes, skates, and horses.

As the first UNESCO City of Gastronomy designated in the United States, it's no surprise that Tucson is home to hundreds of incredible places to enjoy original food and drink, including restaurants run by innovative chefs with national and international reputations. Also designated as a "Word Festival & Event City" by International Festivals and Events Association, there are dozens of culinary events throughout the year to whet your appetite.

The Southern Arizona Heritage and Visitor Center is your starting point to discover all that southern Arizona, the Sonoran Desert, and the Sky Islands have to offer. You can’t miss us – we’re located in downtown Tucson inside the Pima County Historic Courthouse, just look for the beautiful tiled dome.  Our Visitor Center includes interactive exhibits, a Theater, gallery, gift shop, and other engaging displays designed to introduce you to new places and provide inspiration to guide your journey.
