Maricopa Historical Society and Museum

We are the museum and visitors center for the City of Maricopa. Maricopa has a long and resilient history. In 1857 the city of Maricopa Wells was established and became a major stop for people traveling west. We had clean fresh water, vegetables and mercantile facilities allowing comfort to travelers. The Southern Pacific Railroad relocated their tracks and Maricopa Wells was abandoned and relocated 8 miles away and became Maricopaville. The town grew fast and large and became a greater hub for travelers. The railroad moved once again and we moved as well to our current location of Maricopa.

We are now a city of ~85,000 sandwiched between two Indian Reservations/Communities and the only stop for Amtrak in the Phoenix Valley.

We also have a California Zephyr Silver Horizon rail car on display that we provide tours through.
