Arizona ranks among the top 10 in the nation for states with the most public land. In fact, more than 50 percent of our stunning landscape is protected — and open for people to explore. This includes three national parks, 19 national monuments, 47 national historic landmarks and 33 state parks.

And these numbers don’t include Route 66 — that iconic road from Chicago to Santa Monica whose path through Arizona includes the longest remaining stretch of uninterrupted Mother Road highway.

All that to say: There’s much to see and do among the state’s legendary parks and monuments, whether it’s venturing underground into the stalagmites of Kartchner Caverns, gazing in awe at the thousands-years-old cliff dwellings at Montezuma Castle or witnessing the breathtaking sandstone swirls of The Wave at Vermilion Cliffs National Monument.
