Get to the Pint
It seems like everywhere you go these days, you’re apt to run into a craft brewery. As a destination, Arizona is no stranger to this phenomenon. And that’s a good thing.
Here, breweries run the gamut from microbreweries churning out one-of-a-kind beers so limited they’re on tap no longer than a week to larger-scale operations with nationwide distribution. The one thing they all have in common though? A taste that evokes a distinct sense of place.
Breweries such as Dark Sky Brewing, Mother Road and Arizona Wilderness Brewing are all deeply rooted in place. For example, in Flagstaff, Dark Sky recognizes its hometown’s designation as an International Dark Sky City, the first in the world, while Mother Road Brewing, also in Flagstaff, nods to its historic locale on Route 66. The best way to sample: explore the Flagstaff Brewery Trail.
Arizona Wilderness Brewing, with several locations in metro Phoenix, partners with farmers and growers statewide to create a slew of sustainable beers with ingredients native to the land.
That sense of place shows up in other ways as well, particularly among the brewers themselves, who frequently collaborate with one another to build a strong brewery community that’s earned acclaim not only within the state but nationally, too.
Whether you’re raising a cold glass of Scottsdale Blonde from Huss Brewing or sipping the Citrazona IPA from Tucson’s Barrio Brewing (the state’s first employee-owned brewery and its oldest continuously operating one), toast to the fact that you’re enjoying the authentic flavor of Arizona.
