LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Stray Cat proudly concludes season 23 with a distinctly Stray Cat approach to a beloved favorite - the camp-tastic sci-fi classic musical LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. This production promises even more of the humor you’re used to - just with a decidedly more adult edge. This production will also lean into the ‘horror’ and hopefully land darker than past revivals - a ghoulish, yet undeniably hilarious - nightmarish descent into violence and the monstrous hunger for validation. Some monsters are born. Others are just waiting to bloom. The full press release is below. Please let me know if you need anything additional.FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASELITTLE SHOP OF HORRORSbook and lyrics by Howard Ashmanmusic by Alan Menkindirected by Ron Maymusical direction by Mark 4manchoreographed by Stephen HohendorfTempe Center for the Arts Studio TheatreMay 2 - 17, 2025Feed me, Stray Cat!The characters are the same. The songs are the same. But the show won’t be. We have watched this long-time favorite on local stages for decades and accrued a whole rolodex of thoughts in the vein of, “…what would happen if we did a production Stray Cat style?” Welp. Time to find out! We’re about to do everything we can to put the ‘horrors’ back into the little shop y’all know and love. Please be aware the show contains adult language and situations and comic depictions of over-the-top gore. Often this is a show that is considered family friendly - but we would exercise caution and strongly encourage treating this production as at the very least PG-13.WHEN: FRIDAY 5.2.25 at 7:30pm – OFFICIAL OPENING NIGHTSATURDAY 5.3.25 at 7:30pmSUNDAY 5.4.25 at 2:00pm THURSDAY 5.8.25 at 7:30pmFRIDAY 5.9.25 at 7:30pmSATURDAY 5.10.25 at 7:30pmSUNDAY 5.11.25 at 2:00pm]WEDNESDAY 5.13.25 at 7:30pmTHURSDAY 5.14.25 at 7:30pmFRIDAY 5.15.25 at 7:30pm - ASL INTERPRETED PERFORMANCE SATURDAY 5.16.25 at 7:30pm - CLOSING PERFORMANCEWHERE: Tempe Center for the ArtsSTUDIO THEATRE 700 W Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, AZ 85281PLENTY OF FREE PARKING AVAILABLE!****THE PARKING GARAGE RIGHT NEXT TO THE VENUE IS OPEN. Leading Ladies- directed by Cheryl Schaar

In this hilarious comedy, two English Shakespearean actors, Leo and Jack, find themselves so down on their luck that they’re performing "Scenes from Shakespeare" on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. But then, what luck! They hear that dear old Florence of nearby York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews whom she has never seen. For Jack and Leo it is the work of an instant to turn themselves into nephews Max and Steve and grab the cash. And that’s when the complications set in… Romantic entanglements abound, as Some Like It Hot meets Twelfth Night in this screwball comedy filled with bad behavior, high heels and a world of comedy. Fast-paced and bursting with mistaken identities and clever plot twists, Leading Ladies is a highly combustible and increasingly raucous farce!

WONDER: Social Surrealism in Contemporary Art Closing Reception Featuring Performances by Abby Fisher

(un)certainty (2024) by Lawton Hall and Figure to Ground by Andrea Mazzariello are two pieces that will be performed in this concert, each offering a unique exploration of rhythm and complexity. (un)certainty, scored for solo marimba and electronics, delves into the tension between surety and doubt, inspired by advances in particle physics. Its five movements range from bold, frantic chords to quiet reflection, culminating in a rhythmic battle between marimba and electronics. Figure to Ground, written for Abby Fisher, simplifies rhythmic complexity into a single syncopated figure, gradually dissolving the pulse until a late melody reasserts it. Both pieces demand courageous performances, inviting listeners into deep contemplation of time and structure.

Journeys in Spirit 2025: Traditional and Contemporary Native Art

The ‘Tis Art Center & Gallery is proud to present "Journeys in Spirit 2025: Traditional and Contemporary Native Art,” a collaborative exhibition with the Museum of Indigenous Peoples. This highly anticipated annual event, which runs from Thursday, May 22 through Tuesday, June 24, will showcase the rich cultural heritage and artistic expressions of Native American communities. Featuring an extraordinary collection of works — including paintings, basketry, jewelry, photography, beadwork and ceramics — the exhibition is free and open to the public. Visitors are also invited to attend an artist reception during Prescott’s 4th Friday Art Walk on May 23 from 5–7 p.m., where they can watch a painting performance by a live painter named Chroma, engage with other artists and learn more about the creative process behind the works on display. Journeys in Spirit highlights the creativity and talent of Native American artists from a range of tribal backgrounds, including Hopi, Cherokee, Dine’, Yaqui, Choctaw, Muskogee Creek, Yavapai and more. Some artists continue to live within their tribal communities; others have built lives outside these environments, while remaining deeply connected to their heritage. Through their work, each artist shares a unique perspective and cultural narrative. The ‘Tis Art Center & Gallery extends its gratitude to the City of Prescott and the Prescott Area Arts and Humanities Council for their continued support of this exhibition.
