Step into cool weather in the Verde River Greenway State Natural Area. Especially in summertime, this mild climate is ideal for summer hiking and water activities.
At more than six miles long and nearly 480 acres in total size, the Verde River Greenway is an impressive and beautiful natural wonder. A lush forest lines the water and creates a home for a variety of wildlife including great blue heron, black hawks, southwestern bald eagles, coyotes, mule deer, and more.
In addition to hiking, there’s lots of water fun to be had. Swim in the cool water, take a peaceful canoe ride, or cast your bait and try your luck fishing.
Next to Verde River Greenway is Dead Horse Ranch State Park, the perfect location for camping. In addition to tent and RV sites, you’ll find eight one-room login cabins, which are available by reservation. If you’d rather stay for just the day, Verde River Greenway is within easy reach of Sedona, Prescott, Flagstaff, and Jerome. These historic Northern Arizona towns all offer great lodging options.
