MUCH OF THE VEGETATION IN ARIZONA AND THE GREATER SOUTHWEST HAS BEEN INVADED BY NON-NATIVE PLANTS. THIS AREA IS BEING PRESERVED IN ITS NATIVE STATE. IN ORDER TO PROTECT THAT NATURAL FLORA, THE SAN RAFAEL RANCH STATE PARK IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC.
This beautiful prairie region was historically a vast and prosperous ranch with records indicating that 4,000 calves were branded in a single year alone. Now it is a haven for wildlife including mule deer, javelina, antelope, bobcats, cougars, coyotes, and a gamut of desert-loving birds.
If you would like to see the land, you can do a drive through along Forest Service road 61. Be sure to bring your long lens if you want to capture the distant scenery.
For hours and pricing, please visit the website.
