San Rafael Ranch State Park

MUCH OF THE VEGETATION IN ARIZONA AND THE GREATER SOUTHWEST HAS BEEN INVADED BY NON-NATIVE PLANTS. THIS AREA IS BEING PRESERVED IN ITS NATIVE STATE. IN ORDER TO PROTECT THAT NATURAL FLORA, THE SAN RAFAEL RANCH STATE PARK IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC.

History & Nature

This beautiful prairie region was historically a vast and prosperous ranch with records indicating that 4,000 calves were branded in a single year alone. Now it is a haven for wildlife including mule deer, javelina, antelope, bobcats, cougars, coyotes, and a gamut of desert-loving birds.
