Imagine yourself in a turn-of-the-century mining town as its locals strolled along the busy streets. At the Clarkdale Heritage Center, you’ll uncover stories of the company-owned town founded by William A. Clark, one of the richest men of the Gilded Age.
Clark purchased the United Verde Copper Company, which turned into one of the most profitable mines in the world. When he moved the copper smelter to Bitter Creek, he established the town of Clarkdale. In this town, Clark created housing, a park, hospital, and schools so his employees could thrive.
This heritage center prides itself in the curation and care of the documents, artifacts, and structures of Clarkdale. You can also take a stroll through Clarkdale to see some of the 386 historic buildings.
Open Wednesday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Thursday – Saturday 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
