The Mesa Easter Pageant, “Jesus the Christ,”—the largest annual outdoor Easter pageant in the world—resumes this spring, March 29-April 1 and April 4-8, 2023, on the north lawn of the Mesa Temple. (Please NOTE: no shows are presented on Sunday, April 2, or Monday, April 3.)
This musical dramatization draws annually more than 100,000 people to evening performances spread over two weeks before Easter.
This beloved community tradition began in 1938 by a group of young people who gathered at the temple for an Easter Sunrise Service in 1938 and has grown over eight decades to a spectacular production highlighting the powerful and poignant moments of the Savior’s life and resurrection, taken directly from the New Testament.
The production includes a 400+ member costumed cast with music, dance, drama, live animals and special effects, all performed on a massive four-story-high stage.
Attendance at this popular event ranges from 6,000 to 16,000 people per showing. To avoid the larger crowds, attendees are encouraged to view one of the performances prior to Easter weekend. To secure one of the 9,500 chairs provided, it’s recommended to arrive at least one hour early for performances during the first week and two hours (or more) early in the second week. Bringing food and water is acceptable. On colder nights, blankets are suggested.
Self-parking is limited. Light rail transportation is encouraged.
Note: Wednesday to Saturday, March 19-April 1, ASL translators will be assisting near the front. At every performance, a limited number of headsets are available that offer English-to-Spanish translation of the narration.
Admission to the pageant is free, no tickets required, and donations will not be accepted. The event is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a gift to the community.
