Grand Canyon Celebration of Art
Oct 27th – Jan 17th 2022
Since its inception in 2009, Celebration of Art has invited participating artists to paint “en plein air” (outside on location) for a week at Grand Canyon. The works produced during this time are shown alongside studio-produced pieces at the historic Kolb Studio in an exhibition and sale that extends for four months. This year, many of the 25 participating artists will paint along the South Rim from September 11th to September 18th. Visitors to Grand Canyon will be able to view the artists as they paint.
On Friday, September 17th, the artists will take part in a “Paint Out” along the South Rim from Verkamp’s Visitor Center to Thunderbird Lodge, where visitors will have the opportunity to watch the artists interpret the ever-shifting light and shadow, amazing land forms, and vibrant colors of Grand Canyon. This event is open to the public, and the completed paintings will be available for purchase on-site.
For the second year in a row, select artworks will be accessible to the public remotely. A special online silent auction will take place September 3–18, featuring pieces chosen by the artists. Silent auction winners will be announced Sunday, September 19.
The exhibition and sale will open to the general public at Kolb Studio on Saturday, September 18, and will continue through January 17, 2022. The online sales gallery will go live the week of September 20.
