In compliance with the City of Flagstaff’s current policies regarding public gatherings, the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra is transitioning the Beethoven 5k to a virtual run on July 18. Anyone can participate in the virtual run at any time, and from anywhere, on July 18! Participants can run or walk, and play Beethoven’s 5th Symphony through their own finish line!
In honor of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, we invite the community to join members of the FSO, whether your speed is andante, allegro or presto, to take part in a fun, community-wide event. Known for his bold, powerful and expressive compositions, the 5th Symphony epitomizes Beethoven’s talent and force.
All participants will receive:
a pre-run bib, personalized with their name on it.
a custom-designed Beethoven 5k running mask: the ShapeShifter mask by SweatVac. Avoid dusty runs by wearing the mask and wear it as a protective covering on your errands around town!
a finisher’s certificate.
a live recording of a Beethoven- inspired 30-minute spin class: Participants who complete the spin class and 5k on July 18 will receive the double-down challenge award, which is free entry into next year’s race!
the chance to win an overall award for time: participants who submit their time will be eligible for top 3 men’s and women’s race awards (note: accurate times shall be provided by participants in good faith).
The Virtual Beethoven 5k is a great event for family and friends, as groups or teams can come together and run virtually. It is recommended to run or walk alone, but know that your friends are joining you virtually. Share photos of each other, which can be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org or tagged on Facebook!
Enjoy the outdoors and get exercise, while participating virtually and celebrating Beethoven’s powerful and expressive 5th Symphony. Registration is open at flagstaffsymphony.org! The fee to participate is $30. This charity event supports the FSO during this challenging time. Proceeds provide the FSO with financial assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional contributions can go to the FSO or to the Family Food Center in Flagstaff. Participants will have the choice to make a donation upon check out online.
Mask pick up will take place on July 17, from 4-7 p.m. at the alley adjacent to the FSO offices downtown. We ask that participants maintain social distancing while picking up their mask. Remember, when you exercise to classical music, you exercise your brain as well as your body! For more information, visit the website, Facebook page, or call the offices at 928-774-5107.
