Colossal Cave was officially "discovered" in 1879, but archaeological findings show that the cave had been used for centuries by prehistoric peoples.
On the National Historic Register, the 2,400-acre Park showcases crystal-filled Colossal Cave and historic La Posta Quemada Ranch, a 128-year-old working ranch.
Guided tours and advanced caving treks are conducted on a daily basis.
The headquarters of La Posta Quemada Ranch is a historical museum and research library. Exhibits explain the human and natural history of Colossal Cave Mountain Park and the Cienega Corridor.
