Day Tour from Phoenix to Sedona Red Rock Country and the Verde Valley!
Spend a day exploring one of the most stunning backdrops in the world. Visit the red rocks of Sedona, Tlaquepaque Village, Montezuma’s Castle and the fun and funky historic town of Jerome.
A Day in the red rocks of Sedona and the verdant Verde Valley! This morning we leave the Sonoran Desert to explore the Verde Valley, about an hour and a half north of Phoenix. Ribbons of green wind their way through the valley floor. Lush cottonwood-willow riparian corridors attract migratory birds, beaver, and other wildlife. These Fremont Cottonwood- Gooding Willow forests are some of the rarest and most threatened forest types in North America! Our first stop is Montezuma’s Castle National Monument where cliff-side dwellings of the ancient Sinagua people stand above an interpretive trail along a creek lined with sycamore trees. We drive on through Camp Verde to the red rocks of Sedona. Depending on the group’s interest we will stop at Red Rock State Park for a short hike and to learn about the natural environment, or to get better acquainted with this town’s heritage we can make a stop at the Sedona Heritage Museum. Next we will make a stop for lunch and shopping opportunities at the distinctive Tlaquepaque Village along the banks of Oak Creek. With our bellies full we drive on to the historic town of Jerome. Once a copper mining town, the “wickedest town in the west” is now filled with art galleries, restaurants and wine tasting rooms. After walking the hilly streets of Jerome, we drive back down Cleopatra Hill and continue south to Phoenix to end a great day in the Verde Valley. The National Forest Service considers the land around Sedona in red rock country high use/high impact, with over 1.5 million visitors each year. Geo Savvy Tours is very mindful of this and chooses destinations that can support visitors without degrading the natural beauty of the area. We donate proceeds and volunteer hours to support preservation, conservation, and restoration efforts in the Verde Valley to protect the cultural and natural wonders of the area. All van travel carbon emissions from our tours are offset through Terra Pass.
