Arizona Office of Tourism Announces the 27th Annual Governors Conference on Tourism

Tourism professionals from across the state will travel to the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa this July for the 27th Annual Governors Conference on Tourism. The Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT), along with co-sponsors Arizona Tourism Alliance, Arizona Hotel & Lodging Association, and Arizona Restaurant & Hospitality Association, will host Arizonas premier travel industry event, July 1113.

This years program will be a dynamic mix of fresh industry information and resources that can help tourism professionals effectively market Arizona to audiences around the world. Sixteen breakout sessions and speakers will educate nearly 600 industry professionals about the most innovative and up-to-date tourism marketing concepts as well as inform them on the latest research conducted on the tourism industry.

Opening the conference on Thursday morning at 8 a.m., AOT Director Margie Emmermann will present the State of the Industry Address, revealing 2006 year-end numbers and a preview of whats on the horizon for Arizonas tourism industry in the coming year. Emmermann will also announce the 2007 Governors Tourism Award recipients during a luncheon ceremony on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. These awards recognize outstanding service and achievements in the industry, and highlights program success in different areas of the travel industry.

As an ending highlight of the conference, internationally renowned speaker Harvey Mackay will present Do What You Love, Love What You Do, and Deliver More than You Promise. Mackay is the author of five New York Times bestsellers and his books have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. Mackay is a nationally syndicated columnist for United Feature Syndicate, whose weekly articles appear in 52 newspapers around the country, including The Arizona Republic. A world-renowned speaker, Toastmasters International named him one of the top five speakers in the world. He recently received the prestigious Horatio Alger Award in the Supreme Court Chambers. Previous recipients are Presidents Eisenhower, Ford and Reagan, former Secretary of State Colin Powell and Entertainer Carol Burnett. In addition, Mackay is chairman of MackayMitchell Envelope Company, a $100 million company he founded at age 26. From his experience as a Minneapolis entrepreneur and prominent community leader, Mackay will offer powerful and compelling advice including tips on salesmanship, customer service, leadership, management and negotiation. Mackays presentation will be Friday July, 13 at 10:30 a.m.
