Annual Welcome Back Buzzards
Boyce Thompson Arboretum
Welcome Back Buzzards March 23
early opening at 7:00 AM for Vulture Viewing; events of the day continue until 2:00 p.m.
The Arboretum opens at 7:00am, one hour early on this special morning for visitors to observing and learn about the migratory flock of turkey vultures that return to Arizona each spring after the big, black birds have spent winter months south-of-the-border. Morning events include vulture viewing from 7:00-8:30 a.m. in our cactus garden; and then at 8:30 am bird walk leaders guide a walk around the trails in search of other colorful birds around the gardens. Don't miss the Arizona Game and Fish Department's popular 'living exhibit' of a real, live Turkey Vulture and variety of other birds, reptiles and small mammals – brought here by volunteers who offer their time as wildlife rehabbers. Their exhibit is near the Smith Building from approximately 8:00 a.m. til 2:00 p.m.
